NOPD chief Warren Riley has cleared all of the officers in the New Years Eve shooting of Adolph Grimes in the Treme, according to a statement released by police.

All of the officers will remain on desk duty, pending an investigation by the federal government into the shooting, said Riley in a statement. Grimes, 22, was killed on New Year’s Eve.

Police officers said Grimes fired first as officers approached what they believed to be a suspicious vehicle. The nine police officers were reassigned after the shooting, which is being formally investigated by the FBI.

Grimes’ family is suing the NOPD over his death, after he was shot nearly a dozen times. The Grimes family contends police were overzealous in the incident. The police union disagrees.
